How was the aesthetic role of Botox in treating facial wrinkles discovered?
Botox is a molecule produced in the USA by the Allergan laboratory, derived from a natural strain that produces botulinum toxin.
Allergan extracts it and dispatches the product to its factory in Westport, Ireland, where the toxin is prepared, measured and distributed in hundreds of millions of bottles worldwide each year.
Botox was initially used for medical indications, particularly in children with strabismus (which is a condition where the eyes are misaligned) in order to relax the eye’s motor muscles.
