Men and women can have an eyelid surgery
Patients seek consultation due to a tired, heavy and darkened appearance of their eyes.
With time, the very thin skin of the eyelids loosens. The upper eyelids tend to sag, causing patients to widen their eyes to compensate, while the lower eyelids may become wrinkled, revealing wrinkles and under-eye bags.
I also meet younger patients who come to see me because in their families, everyone develops under- eye bags from the age of 30 or experiences heavy upper eyelids.

This surgery is performed on an outpatient basis at the clinic, and results are quite quickly visible.
Here is the case of one of my lovely patients who wanted to reduce the appearance of “bags” under her eyes, which gave her a tired look and made her appear older than her actual age.
Over time, the very thin skin of the eyelids loses its firmness and tends to sag.
Also, the skin of the lower eyelids withers and some wrinkles appear, as well as under- eye bags.
A lot of patients complain about their tired, dimmed, or darkened look…
Sometimes, these eye bags are hereditary and can be visible quite early, even without any excess of skin.
Blepharoplasty will bring a more relaxed and refreshed look to the eyes.
Over time, the skin tends to lose its elasticity. When this happens around the eyes, the effects can be easily visible: the eyelids get heavier, bags appear or worsen, and it all gives you a tired look.
In the “before/after” case presented, blepharoplasty consists of removing the excess skin under the eyelid and the fat pockets under the skin.
Blepharoplasty will restore the light and softness to your gaze.
Clinical examination
Through the clinical examination, we will evaluate the reach of the surgery and give explanations on the scars that will be expected. For instance, in the case of lower eyelid surgery it’s necessary to evaluate whether we need to remove fat and, based on the amount of skin that needs to be removed, a scarless technique can be performed, known as transconjunctival surgery. Otherwise, the surgery can be performed from under the eyelashes (sub-ciliary approach).
A preliminary ophthalmological examination may be recommended to identify any potential pathology that could contraindicate eyelid surgery.
Eyelid surgery
The procedure lasts 30 minutes to one hour. It is usually performed under a local anesthesia. The patient comes to the clinic a couple hours before the procedure, and goes back home the same evening.
Postoperative care
The pain can easily be managed through analgesic medication. Saline solution drops are prescribed during a few days to help protect against irritations.
It is also recommended to apply cool compress or wear cool eyeglasses right after the procedure. It is also possible to take some to the clinic for immediate use. Depending on the severity of the procedure, some bruises may appear. This may vary from one patient to another.
The stitches will be removed 5 days after the procedure. In the case of scarless blepharoplasty, there is no need to remove stitches.
Patients will need to plan a few days off work, although some patients return to work the day after with sunglasses. The effects of the surgery can be quickly seen, and the final results can be apparent once the swelling subsides.
Scar massages may be recommended for more pronounced lower eyelid scars that extend to the sides.

Surgery is not always necessary.
In some cases, a few injections of hyaluronic acid are enough to give the look a brighter aspect.
Here is the case of one of my younger patients who underwent an aesthetic blepharoplasty. The skin of her eyelids was particularly thin, and that gave her a heavy look.
As you can see, with some injections of hyaluronic acid around the eyes and in the temples, the eyebrow tail lifts and the volumes are rebalanced, giving a more open look to the eyes.
The patient appears less tired, less stressed, and her gaze is relaxed and refreshed.
