Lipoaspiration or liposuction

Men and women of all ages come for consultations regarding localized fat deposits that resist diet and exercise.

These deposits are found on the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, knees, calves, and ankles. They can also be seen on the arms, neck, and chin. Once established, this localized fat is difficult to eliminate.

Significant weight loss may eventually reduce it, but at the cost of a thinner, tired-looking face and a deflated bust. Liposuction is also used to remove cellulite.

Sometimes, even in thin individuals, skin laxity is observed that liposuction cannot correct. If there is a localized fat deposit, it will disappear, but the patient may not achieve the desired result. This can sometimes be difficult to fully understand. Depending on the clinical examination, surgery with scars (such as an abdominoplasty) may be recommended to remove excess skin with a much better outcome. It is essential to understand the patient’s wishes and clearly explain what she can expect from liposuction. If the procedure is appropriate, the result will be satisfactory.

Double chin liposuction is a procedure that removes fat from under the chin, allowing the skin to tighten against the floor of the mouth and neck muscles. All with natural results. The aim of double chin liposuction is to reduce the volume under the chin by recreating the chin-cervical angle. The aim is to harmonize the volumes of the neck with those of the face. When the patient has a visible excess of fat in this area and good quality skin. For the result to be satisfactory, the skin must be able to tighten satisfactorily over the neck muscles.

The duration of a liposuction procedure depends on the amount of fat and the number of areas to be treated. On average, it lasts 1 to 1.5 hours, under epidural or general anesthesia.

At the end of the procedure, we apply a compression garment (panty) to limit oedema and ensure proper redistribution of the cutaneous and subcutaneous planes.

The patient comes in at noon on the day of the operation, and usually leaves the next morning when the tummy, thighs, saddlebags and knees, for example, are treated. Pain is generally well controlled by analgesics.

The panty should be worn for a month, and compression stockings for 7 to 10 days, with anticoagulant treatment. A 3 to 7-day leave from work is recommended.

The result is visible once the swelling has subsided, i.e. after around 6 weeks. Sport should not be resumed for a month.
